Central Canal

The central canal is a thin tube which runs longitudinally down the length of the spinal cord, and is the adult remains of the neural tube. CSF can be withdrawn from this structure via a lumbar puncture. The central canal is supplied with CSF by a narrowing of the fourth ventricle known as the obex (barrier between brain and spinal cord) at its superior end.
